Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor

Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for providing me with this baby monitor. I would give this a solid 4+ out of 5 stars. We have been using the infant optics dxr-8 prior to this monitor, and we love that this Philips Avent one has a better range (compared to the infant optics one that often beeps saying that there is no signal if we get not that far from the nursery), video display (it has a clearer video display), and our favorite feature is the ECO mode --- it turns the monitor screen on from being on standby and alerts us when our baby is moving or making a noise. The only con which prevents me from giving this product a 5 full stars is the lack of pan and zoom feature; it does not allow me to pan and zoom the camera from the monitor and the zoom feature compared to our other monitor is not as great.

First of all, I LOVE having a video monitor SO MUCH. If you are debating buying one, GET ONE. It provides me so much reassurance to be able to see my baby wherever I am in the house. I love that it allows me to respond quickly to him, rather than him needing to cry loudly for me to hear him. He actually never cries when he wakes up, and I think it is due to having a video monitor because I can go get him right when he wakes. There are some really great features of this video monitor, and some that I would change. Some positives are the long battery life, the different modes (like the ECO mode), and the contrast on the screen. I will elaborate on the latter two. The ECO mode is a really neat idea that turns off the monitor and audio when it does not detect movement or sound. This saves battery. You can set the level of sensitivity (so low sensitivity your baby would have to move more to activate the monitor, while high sensitivity your baby would not have to move as much). I think this is a great feature for a lot of parents. The only issue I have had is that we use white noise in the room our baby sleeps in, and so I think that affects the ECO mode's ability to work well. It often will just stay on even when my baby is not moving or making sound. Or, it will turn off and then on but I don't see my baby moving so I'm not sure why it is turning on. Both of these seem to happen even after messing with the sensitivity settings. I think that if you do not use white noise, it might function more properly. The picture on the screen looked a little funny to me at first, but then I decided that I like the contrast between my baby and the background (I have included a picture), because it is easier for me to see his chest rising and falling. There is one last thing I would change about this monitor. I wish there was an easier way to pan around. You have to go into a setting and then pan (which has a limited range). But overall I think that this could be a great choice for many parents. Thank you to weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this video monitor to try and review.

This is a great monitor. It is super easy to set up. The display is great, it has a clear picture, day or night. I love that it shows the temperature in the room and it has many options of modes- video, audio, vox, or eco. I love that you can have it play music or you can talk to your baby without going into the room, just using the display. The display is portable so I can bring it with me from room to room while my baby sleeps and the battery lasts a while. Again the screen and picture is so clear, I can see every feature and hair on my kid's head. The eco mode is great. It will keep the screen off when there is no movement or sound and will turn back on when there is sound. It helps save the battery a lot. Another really great thing about this monitor is there is little to no delay, which is one problem we had with our old monitor. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the camera is not as wide as I would like it to be. So I cannot see my baby's whole crib. It is a little annoying when I cannot see her while she is sleeping or upset and standing in the corner of the crib. Also the zoom and pan function is complicated to use. What I liked: -Sound Quality is great -Easy set up (Con-TERRIBLE instructions) -the option for Eco mode is awesome -I love knowing the temperature of my baby's room -battery life is excellent What I didn't love: -the lullabies aren't something I use. I would love an option for a white noise sound -I had the monitor get disconnected from the camera in the middle of the night and it set off an awful beeping sound from the parent monitor. I'd be perfectly happy with a screen telling me it had been disconnected and not a sound. I tested this product as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel and I would definitely recommend it.

I was given this baby monitor a few weeks ago, to test as a part of the weeSpring Parent Panel. My overall opinion is that this baby monitor makes big claims as to picture clarity, long distance range, and ease of use - and excels at each point! This is an excellent monitor. I have used a simple audio monitor since my baby was born, but now that she is a year old, it is hard to know what those cries mean. Crying is a natural part of falling asleep for babies, and it has been reassuring to see - very clearly - if she is standing in her crib crying because she threw out her bunny (and needs help) or if she is lying down, crying off and on, with her eyes closed (settling herself and almost asleep!). We placed the monitor in her room on a window sill and it gives a wide, full view of her crib. I like the option to mount it on the wall in needed in the future, but we don't feel this is necessary for our set up currently. The parent unit is very well designed. I was nervous that the instructions for set up were all images - there wasn't a lot of explanations about each feature. However, I quickly realized that explanations weren't needed! The unit is very intuitive to use and after pressing through the options once, I knew exactly what each button was capable of doing. My other children also learned the options quickly, and it's easy to ask them to check on the baby. They love the music options and being able to switch the mode to video to quickly "see" the baby. The mode choices are quite helpful. We keep the parent unit in the kitchen, so when company is over, I appreciate that I can switch the unit to just audio, so my guests aren't looking at the baby. During the day, we typically keep the unit on ECO mode, and it stays charged all day as we move about the house. It's a comfort to know that if the screen is off (black), all is well upstairs! When I first lay the baby down for a nap, I often switch it to video so I can keep an eye on her while loading the dishwasher or prepping dinner, and then switch it back to ECO when it's clear she's asleep. The range of the parent unit has allowed us to be in the backyard with the other children during nap time, which has been so helpful. My other audio-only baby monitor was limited to just outside the backdoor, so we are all thankful for the greater flexibility! In all, this baby monitor is well made and delivers on quality of image and sound. I highly recommend!
